ASSF Admin Building undergoes much needed repairs

Posted by assf69 on March 18, 2009

18 March. The old main building used to be the Rectory or covento of the priests who were assigned in San Fabian. In 1969, when the Archdiocesan School of San Fabian was founded, it became the main school building. Later on, a part of assfoldit became the residence of the Franciscan nuns who administered the school.

For a long a time, the second floor of the main building had  housed the classrooms, the library; the first floor had the offices of the Principal, the Registrar and the Treasurer, as well as the classrooms of the Pre-Elementary pupils. When the three newly-buillt classrooms for the Fourth Year students and the three classrooms for the Pre-elementary department were made this year, the main building has been transformed into the Administration Building.

The main floor is where the offices of the Principal, the Registrar, the Treasurer, the Guidance Counselor, the Health Officer as well as the School Custodian are found. The faculty rooms of the High School and the Elementary and Pre-Elementary Departments are also found along the main corridor area of the building. The conference room is located near the office of the principal. The second floor has the main library, the computer laboratory and the new audio-visual room.

The much needed repairs began last 2 March. The repairs consist of installing the ceiling joists as well as the installation of the marine plywood, and the plastering of concrete the old walls, strengthening the support beams. The overall project is being funded in part by the proceeds of the Fund Raising Project undertaken by the ASSF community during its last Foundation Anniversary celebration. Engr. Joselito F. Ramos is supervising the project.

San Fabian – 6 February. The Archdiocesan School of San Fabian held a one-day seminar/workshop on basic self-defense. It was participated in by all the female students of the High School Department. The seminar was aptly called: “Know the Law. A Seminar/Workshop on the Laws to Protect Vulnerable Members of the Society and Basic Knowledge of Self-Defense”. It was held at the Parish Center of the Parish of St. Fabian, Pope and Martyr.

Msgr. Oscar V. Cruz, DD, the Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Schools, instructed the Directors of the Catholic Schools to conduct the said Seminar/Workshop. “I like the girls to learn self-defense  methods. Girls who know self-defense can defend themselves against adults, ” he said. Msgr. Cruz further commented that girls should be taught to be calm, but alert. They should be able to grab anything to stop any possible attack.

The Seminar/Workshop was a response to the instruction of Archbishop Oscar V. Cruz, DD. A short program introducing the seminar was held with Mr. Michael E. Albay, a faculty member, opening the day with a prayer. Mrs. Caridad M. Valdez, the Assistant Principal, welcomed the students. The rationale of the seminar was explained by Rev. Fr. Oliver E. Jan 9 non-working holiday in Pangasinan

Posted by assf69 on January 9, 2009

It is another holiday for the province of Pangasinan as Malacañang has declared January 9 a special non-working holiday in Pangasinan as the province, site of a major landing of US liberation forces during World War II, marks Veterans’ Day.

Proclamation No. 1700 says the holiday will give Pangasinenses the opportunity to celebrate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

The day marks the 64th anniversary of the Lingayen Gulf landing by Allied forces led by General Douglas MacArthur, which helped advance the liberation of the Philippines from the Japanese in 1945.

The Archdiocesan School of San Fabian (ASSF) is observing this day as a holiday for all students and teachers.
